Changing Data Defaults

Most QDS users (both beginner and advanced) will find they can keep the QDS default settings. However, QDS does allow you to change default settings both for elements you have not yet entered and for preexisting elements.

To change preset data defaults for new elements (i.e., elements that have not yet been inserted into your Specifications File):

  1. Select Options|Data Defaults.
  2. Locate the options you would like to change and make desired changes.
  3. Click OK.

The Data Default settings tell QDS what values or options to use when adding new elements; changing these default values will not change the specifications for any existing Data Elements. You can apply changes to existing data elements under global changes.

There are twelve tabs under Options|Data Defaults: Times, Time Spans, Special Codes, Branching, Calculations, Test, Data Elements, Styles, Standard Codes, Numbers, Text, and Dates.

On each tab, change the QDS preset defaults using the drop-down, check, and text boxes.
