Edit Elements

Edit Elements can be used to perform multiple functions based on a specified condition, including loop back to address internal inconsistencies or perform conditional range checks, do a specified number of additional elements, display message only, launch a new interview, or link to an external file or URL.

Edit Element Resolution Options

• Looping back to an earlier response or last question answered and modifying previously entered data
• Conditionally do additional items
• No further special processing (display a message with no further action)
• Launching a new control file
• Linking to external file or URL

In some cases you will want a message to accompany the edit check to guide the interviewer or participant through the needed correction. Using substitution tokens in Edit Element messages is one way to help guide the respondent.

Tip: You may opt to not have any message displayed by checking the “Perform without message” box, which is often useful when conditionally doing additional items.

Note: In the Web Module, launching to a new control file is not supported and when linking to an external file, it must be located on a public web server and accessed via URL.
