Working with Key Exchange Encryption

When key exchange has been defined for password encryption security in the Design Studio under interview options Security tab, data collected with the CAPI or ACASI interview control files will be encrypted using a AES 128-bit encryption key. The collected data files will be saved with an extension of .QED (rather than .QAD).

When the data is ready to be warehoused, the Warehouse Manager can only decrypt the .QED file if the data manager logged into the operating system is the same user that added his public key to the corresponding control file.

Warning: Always have more than one user add their public key and always back-up your Key Pair in case your Windows user profile is ever damaged or destroyed. If the Key Pairs are unavailable or lost, it will NOT be possible for the files to be decrypted by you or NOVA.
